Hollywood Neighborhood in NE Portland

The Hollywood District is one of Portland's more historic neighborhoods but is keeping up with current times. The neighborhood development began in 1906 when a streetcar was introduced to Sandy Boulevard. Today, empty storefronts, new businesses (such as Hollywood Wine and Espresso, The Rock and Roll Cafe and Shag), and the start of construction for a Whole Foods Market moving into neighborhood exemplifies the quick changes occurring here. However, despite these changes, Hollywood contains a sense of community, old stately homes and very established businesses. Some of the businesses established before 1940 include: the Hollywood Theater, Fred Meyer, Paulsens Pharmacy and Pals Shanty. Hollywood could be considered a family friendly neighborhood with a great library, the child-friendly Laurelwood Brew Pub, Baskin Robins, several consignment stores for children and Grant Park. In the summer, you can watch the Junior Rose Festival Parade, take swimming lessons at Grant Park, and enjoy the local farmers' market.
